Pick one trip beyond the city

Five days can accommodate a thoughtful introduction to Saigon and a different view of southern Vietnam. Decide whether you want wartime history at Cu Chi or river landscapes on a Mekong itinerary. Trying to combine both with an additional beach break often leaves too much time in vehicles. Choose your day trip first, then protect two slower city days around it.

Use day one to get your bearings

After arrival, check in, locate a convenient meal and explore a short route around your accommodation. Save the exact address and map pin before venturing farther. If you arrive early and feel rested, add a central architecture walk; otherwise a café and dinner are enough. A calm first day also gives you time to confirm tour pickup details and resolve booking questions.

Spend two days on different city themes

Give one day to central history and architecture, with a single substantial museum visit. On the other, explore food and a neighborhood at a gentler pace. Cholon can provide a different cultural perspective, while a café-focused morning can suit a relaxed trip. Avoid treating each day as a checklist of distant attractions. Group stops geographically and keep a rain option close by.

Put the longer outing in the middle

Schedule your Cu Chi or Mekong outing before the final day, leaving some flexibility if weather or operations change. Read the full itinerary: group size, road travel, meals, optional purchases and return location all affect the experience. Do not reserve a special dinner immediately after the advertised return. A simple meal near your hotel is a better plan after a long excursion.

Leave the last day deliberately light

Use your final morning to revisit a favorite café, buy something you have already considered or take a short walk. Pack before going out if departure is later that day. Confirm checkout, luggage storage and airport transport the evening before. If you have an extra night, spend it where it improves the journey rather than switching hotels simply for a different photograph.
