Choose dishes you want to understand
Start with the menu rather than the most photogenic kitchen. A class is more rewarding when you are curious about the ingredients and likely to cook the dishes again. Ask whether the menu is fixed, changes by day or can be adapted. Check how many dishes you will prepare and whether you eat the meal afterward. This helps you plan both the learning experience and the rest of the day.
Ask how much cooking you will do
Hands-on can mean an individual workstation, a shared station or taking turns while the instructor demonstrates. Confirm which format applies and how many students share equipment. If you want practical technique rather than mainly watching, ask about the tasks each participant completes. A demonstration can still be interesting, but it should be the experience you intended to book rather than a surprise once the class begins.
Understand the market visit
If a market component is advertised, ask whether it involves buying ingredients, tasting, a guided introduction or simply passing through. Check how much time it adds and whether transport is included. Wear suitable shoes and ask before photographing vendors. A class without a market visit may offer more kitchen time, which can be a useful tradeoff if you have already spent time exploring food markets independently.
Confirm dietary and access arrangements
Explain dietary requirements before paying and ask what substitutions are possible in the actual menu. Check steps, seating and the time you will spend standing if those affect your comfort. Tell the provider the ages of any children joining and ask whether the equipment and teaching format suit them. Do not assume a family-friendly description covers every age or that each student receives the same workstation setup.
Take something useful home
Ask whether recipes are provided and whether the class explains substitutes for ingredients you may not find at home. Make notes on a technique or flavor combination rather than trying to record the entire session. Compare the final price with ingredients, transport and meals included. Leave enough time after the class to enjoy what you have cooked instead of rushing to another nonrefundable activity.
