Begin with how you will live

A hotel can suit a visit focused on convenience and staffed services, while a serviced apartment may appeal when you want space to cook or settle into a routine. Neither label guarantees a particular standard. List the activities you expect to do in the room: sleeping, working, preparing meals, washing clothes or spending time with family. Use that list to compare the actual property features.

Check who solves problems

Ask about reception hours, maintenance response and the contact process if something fails at night. Some apartments use self-check-in and remote support; some provide hotel-style staffing. Decide what level of help you want, especially on your first visit. A lower rate may be worthwhile, but only if you are comfortable with the service arrangements and can reach someone when necessary.

Inspect the kitchen and laundry promise

If cooking matters, request the equipment list rather than relying on the word kitchenette. Check for suitable cookware, a refrigerator and a usable dining area. For laundry, establish whether facilities are private, shared or a paid external service. Ask about detergent, drying space and operating restrictions. These details can determine whether the extra space is actually useful during a longer stay.

Compare costs on the same basis

Include utilities, cleaning, linen changes, building fees and any deposit when pricing an apartment. For hotels, check breakfast, extra-person charges and a longer-stay rate's cancellation conditions. Ask when deposits are returned and what deductions may apply. Put recurring charges beside one-time costs so a low nightly figure does not hide a more expensive total. Keep written terms with your booking confirmation.

Make a reversible first choice

If you are uncertain, book a shorter initial period with suitable cancellation conditions and test the location before extending. Notice whether the workspace, noise and meal routine suit you. A week of real use is better evidence than a staged photograph. Choose a longer commitment only after confirming the room, inclusions and payment terms that will apply for the rest of your stay.
