Slow mornings, strong coffee.

Let coffee set the pace

A café stop is an easy way to make an unfamiliar city feel smaller. Start close to your accommodation, then use coffee breaks to connect the places you want to explore. A garden café, an upstairs room and a busy pavement table each offer a different view of Saigon. Check opening times directly before making a special journey.

Learn two useful orders

Cà phê sữa đá is iced coffee with condensed milk; cà phê đen đá is iced black coffee. Ask about sweetness and serving size if you are unsure. Vietnamese coffee can taste intense, so try a small serving first. Water, a snack and a slower morning make a better plan than stacking several strong coffees together.

Give a phin time

A phin is a small metal filter that lets coffee drip into the cup below. When your drink arrives with one, let the dripping finish before stirring. The pause is part of the pleasure. If you prefer espresso or a lighter specialty brew, ask what beans and methods are available rather than assuming every café serves the same style.

Choose the café for the occasion

For work, ask whether laptop use is welcome and check sockets, internet and call policies. Order again if you stay for a long time, keep your belongings close and take calls elsewhere. For a weekend catch-up, choose a place where conversation feels comfortable and leave your laptop behind. A café is a shared space before it is an office.

Make a simple coffee walk

Pair one café with one nearby stop: a bookshop, a small gallery or a landmark you already planned to visit. Keep walking sections short in hot weather, carry water and leave room for rain. Vietnam Tourism’s café guide below is a useful starting point for finding venues; verify each venue’s current hours and location yourself.
